Putting SEOs out of Business or Encouraging SEO?

Written by eric at 3:03 pm under Search Engine Optimization

If you see an SEO tutorial signed by Google, what is the first thing you think about? Is Google trying to put SEOs out of business or are they encouraging SEO?

With so many voices AGAINST SEO, isn’t it surprising to see a title like Google’s Starter SEO Guide (pdf) on the official Google Webmaster Central Blog? Or better said: if Google is not against SEO, why should anyone else be?

If you read the guide and apply all the tips advised by Brandon Falls (?) you virtually cover all basic SEO needs of your site. With this tutorial any novice can optimize a site for best Google SERPs. The tutorial covers all SEO (not necessarily Google) best practices needed to optimize a site for both visitors and search bots.

There are some aspects I wouldn’t recommend – like repeating the site title/or parts of the site’s title in the Meta description (it’s illogic from a user’s perspective), but many will take repeating the meta title of the site in the meta description as gospel, if Google said so.

Make no mistake, although the tutorial covers pretty much all basic SEO needs, there are many other SEO aspects you need to address to have a fully optimized site. These tips though will save you a lot of time and money in SEO terms.
