Websites and Your Personal Brand Identity
Websites can enhance your personal brand identity. Using your domain name as a domain name can also enhance your business identity.
Personal branding, is becoming increasingly important in an age where life is moving fast. People want to connect, and they want to get a sense of who they are dealing with. Connecting with others is a basic human need. The explosion of blogs (over 77 million to date, with many thousands being started every day), is a testament to that. This is a great opportunity for the website owner who is able to build their personal brand, and establish a relationship with customers and prospective customers.
John Chow is a blogger who has built his businesses on a strong brand, that also encompasses his personal brand. He shares online money making tips as well, and adds a personal touch with photos of restaurant outings. This combo results in a strong personal brand identity which resonates with his readers.
He has such an enormous following, that a tongue in cheek site has been started – JohnCow.com. It mirrors the original site in layout, and also tells you how to make money online, except their tagline is “Make moo-ney online”.
John Chow has been on a podcast with these guys, so obviously, there’s no hard feelings. And why would there be? Every one who visits the parody site, is also thinking about the original site and John Chow. This ingenious initiative is a win win.
You don’t have the natural flair or drive John Chow and Trump have for self promotion. You just need to be true to your own style and what suits your business. Your business website can be a powerful ally in helping you establish and grow your own personal brand identity as part of your business brand.
