We always like to inform our readers about things we really like and along those lines here is a short on one of the best startups of Web 2.0. Second Brain received rave reviews from across the blogosphere when the company launched its first testing.

The site is essentially an aggregation site that transforms user content into both a personal and a collaborative library. There are several such sites out there, but none any more refined or having more potential than Second Brain. We have it from reliable sources that the platform is about to be released in Beta 2.0 shining form and also that later this week they will start a super cool pre-launch promotion.

Second Brain was spotlighted by none other than TechCrunch, back in February and earlier by Phil Butler who described it as “organizing information chaos” on RWW. The startup was funded with about $1 million initially, and given this modest investment, has done some fantastic work in creating one of the most aesthetically pleasing and user friendly site on the Web.

The user interface and overall usability meets or exceeds any similar site and to be honest it is a whole lot cleaner looking than any of its competitors. Rumor has it that though the brilliant developers made vision and reality possible in the design and business end of SB, the back end architecture was not on a par with other parts of the development. This caused the startup to lose a little ground in the mid term because of having to redesign.

Second Brain is now about to release their Beta 2.0 version with the all new architecture in place for what should be a super cool content library of excellence. The content there is already quite good and especially easy to manipulate with the site’s great tool chest. Users can add content from a host of their favorite services in a flash as well as share or be introduced to content from across the SB user base.

Aggregators are not a new thing, but smart and clean ones are fairly rare. Second Brain combines social aspects of collecting, with smart tools like search and collections for a brilliant platform for storing all of one’s content from literally any service on the Web (well more added all the time).

Second Brain’s vision is to build the largest online content Library in the world, and if they keep refinging the already sharp site – this can happen. I don’t know about you, but with all my online content scattered around the Web I could use another brain – particularly a good one.
